The Changing Places Consortium has welcomed the actions of Championship football club Leeds United opening a Changes Places toilet which is the 2,000th on the official map.
The organisation reported that registration of Changing Places toilets began back in 2008, with just 13 CPTs registered in that first year. It added that since then, the Changing Places message has spread far and wide, bringing increasingly more venues into the inclusive fold.
Last year the Consortium registered 162 new CPTs across the UK and this year it is on-track to beat that number.
The Consortium said the Leeds area demonstrates a “fantastic commitment” to accessibility and inclusion with a high number of registered CPTs.
Morrie Eisenberg, Chief Operating Officer at Leeds United, told the Consortium website: “We are delighted that the 2000th registered Changing Places toilet has been installed at Elland Road, as we continue to try and make the stadium as inclusive and accessible as possible.
“The feedback from supporters has been brilliant and it was a real team effort to make this happen, so a huge thank you to everyone involved.”
The Consortium said: “To have reached the 2,000th registered CPT is an amazing achievement, and a testament to the determination and dedication of our campaigners, as well as the commitment to inclusion from the venues who appear on our Changing Places toilets map.”
It added that the campaign will continue: “Whilst it’s wonderful to have reached this milestone, the work on the Changing Places toilet campaign is far from over. Until Changing Places toilets are installed in all public spaces, the consortium will continue to work closely with campaigners, venues, suppliers, and funders as we work towards a fully inclusive society.
