Change in Building Regulation Charges

The Building (Local Authority Charges) Regulations 2010 were laid before Parliament on 25 February 2010. These Regulations replace the Building (Local Authority Charges) Regulations 1998, and they will come into force on 1st April 2010. These changes allow local authorities in England and Wales to set their own charges based on a full recovery of their costs for carrying out their functions relating to Building Control to a scheme.

For improvements to access a local authority may not fix or recover any charges to a disabled person’s living space or to public buildings when the work is only for improving/providing access/egress for disabled people. This also includes providing accommodation, facilities for disabled people.
